PyroBubbles® have been positively tested by the MPA Dresden (in compliance with DIN EN 3-7) as an extinguishing agent for solid and liquid flammable materials (Fire Classes A, B, D and F).

Inerting:

The dense ball packing inhibits the transport of substances and effectively prevents the formation of flammable mixtures .

Cooling:

The granules absorb a lot of energy due to their specific thermal capacity. This reduces the temperature of escaping gases/ vapours and prevents spontaneous combustion.

Condensation:

Vapors are cooled below their boiling point and condense on the granules.

Adsorption:

Vapours and liquids accumulate on the porous surface and can thus be disposed of in a bound manner.

Extinguishing lithium-ion fires with PyroBubbles®

PyroBubbles® are ideally suited as dry extinguishing agents and are particularly suitable as a replacement for firefighting water or extinguishing foam.

  • Covering the burning material and thus withdrawing oxygen.
  • Reducing the combustible reaction gases by means of the pores of the PyroBubbles®
  • Absorption of thermal energy by means of high specific heat capacity and phase change (melting of metals), thus far cooling eff
  • Shielding of combustible material by means of low thermal conductivity.

The increasing demand for battery cells is also leading to the need for higher standards in fire protection.

And this applies to many areas such as manufacture, transport, storage, disposal or recycling of lithium batteries/ accumulators or cells. In the automotive sector, lithium batteries are being used in hybrid and electric vehicles.

Furthermore, there are countless other electronic devices that use lithium energy storage devices such as laptops, smartphones or digital cameras. They are also being increasingly used in scooters, forklifts or for powering bicycles, so-called E-bikes or pedelecs.

There are now a wide range of lithium battery types available, which differ in structure, electrolyte, performance and size, such as li-metal, li-ion or li-polymer. However, these small power plants are not without risk. The increasingly wide range of application of lithium-ion or lithium-polymer battery cells is also increasing the requirements for fire protection.

Extinguishing metal fires with PyroBubbles®

Extinguishing all metal fires such as magnesium, etc. in industry, e.g. in foundries, furnaces and all metal processing companies. Extinguishing fires burning at extremely high temperatures (e.g. magnesium> 2,000 ° C) is no problem at all with PyroBubbles®.

  • Heat insulation for the environment and less fire spread.
  • Absorption of thermal energy by means of high thermal capacity and melting process.
  • Forming a closed cover on the burning surface, to separate the metal from the oxygen in the air.
  • PyroBubbles® melt to glass and form a layer on the metal fire.

Advantages of PyroBubbles® versus sand:

  • Weight advantage: 1 m³ PyroBubbles® weighs only 250 kg. 1 m³ sand weighs approximately 1.300 kg.
  • Easy storage PyroBubbles® do not need to be elaborately dried or stored.
  • Easy application by means of fire extinguishers – Fire-fighting trailer or roll-off container. PyroBubbles® can also be stored in stationary containers, such as silos.

Advantages of PyroBubbles® versus metal fire powder:

  • After application, PyroBubbles® do not have an oxidizing effect. This means that metal parts, that are in the area where PyroBubbles® were used for fire- fighting, does not rust.
  • After a fire, companies and insurers have less consequential damage to take care of.
  • PyroBubbles® are reusable. Use a vacuum to suck up, or simply a shovel to pick up.

Extinguishing liquid fires with PyroBubbles®

PyroBubbles® float on liquids and spread evenly on burning liquids such as gasoline, oil or kerosene. It forms a heat- absorbent layer that prevents further fluid from evaporating and re-igniting. Furthermore, the air-oxygen is displaced, and the fire is smothered until it is successfully extinguished.

PyroBubbles® are thus ideal for extinguishing fires in storage tanks or, for example, the oil sumps of transformers.

It is particularly worth noting that PyroBubbles® are independent of the polarity of the flammable liquid, so that, for example, they can safely and effectively extinguish burning alcohols or ketones without the risk of flashback.

PyroBubbles® are thus particularly suitable as an eco- friendly and cost-effective alternative to aqueous film forming foams, particularly vis-à-vis the environmentally hazardous fluorinated foaming agents (AFFF, FP, FFFP), so that discussions on the further use of these toxic foaming agents are terminated.

Mode of action in flammable-liquid fires:

  • PyroBubbles® form a dense layer on the burning surface and thus prevent flammable gases from re-igniting.
  • PyroBubbles® separate the flammable liquid from oxygen.Using a single layer is sufficient, because PyroBubbles® is not destroyed by the fire.
  • PyroBubbles® can be used for all flammable liquids.
  • PyroBubbles® can be used in electrically powered installations, because of their insulating effect.

Extinguishing bengalo with PyroBubbles®

The PyroBubbles BENGALOSAFE® comprises a specially designed protective container that is filled with PyroBubbles®.

The Bengal torch is picked up and pressed into the BENGALOSAFE®. The torch is stifled by the extinguishing effect of the PyroBubbles®. Inerting and cooling are the result. The only remains are a safely packaged and burned-out “Bengal”.

The PyroBubbles BENGALOSAFE® units are set up along the edge of the sports field, to signal hooligans that throwing Bengalo fireworks on to the field is meaningless.

The police can easily carry along mobile and portable protective containers (weight from approximately 5.5 kg). Easy handling and the possibility of rapid intervention strengthen authorities and the police in their efforts to provide comprehensive aversion of danger.

Uncontaminated PyroBubbles® can be easily reused.

Advantages of utilising the Pyrobubbles BENGALOSAFE ®

  • Easily transportable containers
  • Immediate insulation of the 2,000°C hot torch Protection against burns and smoke
  • Safe storage without risk of fire propagation or injury No risk of flashback
  • Reusable and environmentally friendly
  • Resistant to ageing

PyroBubbles® For Fire Protection

PyroBubbles® – The Proven and Patented Fire Protection Product

PyroBubbles® are water-neutral and food-safe. They contain only very few water-soluble components. The ph-value ranges between values of 7 and 9 (maximum permissible limits according to the drinking water regulation 6.5 – 9.5). This value corresponds to a soap solution for normal hand washing and can thus be considered neutral. The totality of the soluble salts has considerably less effect on the conductivity of water than the normal mineral content of tap water. Conductivity < 150 μS/cm (permissible limit according to the drinking water regulation 1500 μS/cm).

Preventive Fire Protection

The extinguishant PyroBubbles® can be used exceptionally well in the field of preventive fire protection, particularly for filling cavities and hollows, cable trays and installation shafts (horizontal and vertical), where it can   be used in bulk material form. A completely uncomplicated fire protection upgrade in the area F 90 can be implemented at any time, both for existing buildings as well as for new facilities.

The amount of time required and the amount of material necessary to reach the required level of protection can be considered very economical. The ongoing maintenance costs for maintaining such coverages of cable facilities amount to almost zero. Subsequent covering of cables is also safely and quickly possible later.

Fire Protection for Plants & Production

In fire protection for plant technology, especially in the areas of foundry and metallurgy, incorporating such fire protection into the ongoing production process is very appropriate in sensitive production areas, because selective protection using silo containers is possible so that particularly expensive production equipment can be protected.

PyroBubbles® extinguishant can be used here in bulk form. The reusable extinguishing media causes no damage. Long production downtimes can thus be avoided.

Fire Protection for Energy Supply & Security

The supply of power is an essential part of production and for the entire functioning and meshing of all areas of an operating business. Securing the energy supply and protecting these systems in the event of a fire must have greatest priority for operators and responsible persons.

PyroBubbles® are a means for providing such fire protection both for small and for large transformers. Within the framework of upgrading fire protection to achieve a significant improvement in protection for existing facilities, we were able to protect the transformer oil sump of a 380 kV transformer, filled with a total of 125 tonnes of oil.

Fire Protection in the Area of Specialty Chemicals

Superb extinguishing results were obtained using PyroBubbles® for plant protection and in the handling of triethylaluminium (TEA) around specialty chemistry.

The same applies for silane compounds and thermite fires, which are difficult to control with conventional extinguishing agents:

PyroBubbles® safely enclose the fire and make it manageable.

Here, too, a high level of fire protection can be achieved with silo containers. Alternatively, our flexible extinguisher can be used as a preventive measure for medium-sized and smaller fire hazards.
